All about me and my blog

I recently completed the Disney Princess Half Marathon. The completion of this goal has inspired me to return to blogging. My blog will chronicle my quest to become an athlete. I hope to share research and knowledge that I gather and generate a conversation with others working toward similar goals.

But let me start at the beginning. Last year 2011 was a life changing year for me. In February I found out that I needed to have surgery, a hysterectomy to be exact. The short story is I neglected my health and the consequences were pretty severe. My daughter was turning 20 and I had no plans to have more children. But losing the choice changed me in ways that I may never fully appreciate.

In January I had decided that turning 40 would not be an over the hill event for me. I vowed to be better at 40 than ever before. I had started using a weight loss plan that was going well. The previous summer I had started figure skating and I was adding new activities to support that. Having a major surgery was a major crimp in my plan! But my doctor assured me it was only a temporary setback.

Thankfully, she was right. By August I was back stronger than ever. My skating was improving. Yoga was making me very happy. I was almost down to my goal weight. Life was good. But I kept having this random thought. What about running? I researched and explored the possibility of running a half marathon.. Why start small? I started training for the Princess half in mid August. The rest is history....

Running a half marathon was a dream I never even imagined. The journey has changed me for the good! My inspiration is my friend BH. She bought me a head band that says Just Living the Dream. Hence the name of my blog! I am living the dream!

My next post will be my Princess race recap. But then we will get down to business. I will explore different topics related to getting healthy and getting fit. I will research and then share that research. I hope people will join the conversation so we can support each other.  My first topic will be inspiration!
